Sts. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, disciples of the Lord - Information on the Saint of the Day - Vatican News

Sts. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, disciples of the Lord - Information on the Saint of the Day - Vatican News https://www.vaticannews.va/en/saints/08/31/sts--joseph-of-arimathea-and--nicodemus--disciples-of-the-lord.html Doctors of the Law… It’s hard enough for ordinary, simple people to open their hearts to a God who often reveals himself in unexpected, disconcerting ways. Often, it’s even harder for the learned who are esteemed as teachers of their people. It’s tempting to think that once we’ve studied and taught enough, we know it all, even about God. But, as we discover in two men who appear in the Gospels together at Jesus’ tomb, nothing is impossible for God. The Gospels describe Joseph of Arimathea as “a rich man” (Mt 27:57); a “respected member of the council,” or Sanhedrin (Mk 15:43), the governing body of the Jewish people that would have been the legal and religious reference point for the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and as a “good and righteous man” (Lk 23:50). “...

Jesus's Great Commission

Image
The phrase "go and baptize the nations" is a shortened version of Jesus's Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20, where he instructs his disciples to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This command is central to the Catholic faith and is understood as a call to evangelization and the spread of Christianity to all people. The Great Commission: In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gives his final instructions to his disciples before ascending to heaven.  Go and make disciples: This part emphasizes the need to actively seek out new believers and guide them in the Christian faith.  Baptizing them: Baptism is a sacrament in the Catholic Church, signifying a person's cleansing from sin and entry into the Christian community.  In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: This Trinitarian formula is used in baptism and highlights the belief in the Trinity as one God in three persons.  Teaching them to observ...

Paul discusses the transformative power of Christ's love and the ministry of reconciliation.

In 2 Corinthians 5:14-21, Paul discusses the transformative power of Christ's love and the ministry of reconciliation. He emphasizes that Christ's death for all means all have died to sin, and those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Christ. This leads to a new perspective on life, where believers are considered new creations in Christ, old things having passed away. God, through Christ, has reconciled the world to Himself, entrusting believers with the message of reconciliation as ambassadors for Christ.  Key points from the passage: Love of Christ compels us: The love of Christ motivates believers to live not for themselves but for Him.  New creation in Christ: Those who are in Christ are considered a new creation, with old things having passed away.  Ministry of reconciliation: God has reconciled the world to Himself through Christ and entrusted believers with the message of reconciliation.  Ambassadors for Christ: Believers are called to...

Baptism Saves You -This is the best explanation of why-Please read it and you will know everything about salvation

July 17, 2025  https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/baptism-saves-you r. Dwight Longenecker  •  3/1/2008 By   Fr. Dwight Longenecker • 3/1/2008 Even though I was brought up in a devoutly Evangelical home, I wasn’t baptized until I was 21 years old. We attended an independent Bible church with an essentially Baptist theology, and the irony about this Baptist theology is that it actually de-emphasized baptism. What mattered was being “born again” or “saved,” if we had responded to an altar call and “accepted Jesus into our hearts.” This personal experience was all that was necessary to assure us of eternal salvation. Baptism and communion (while they were not dispensed with altogether) remained unnecessary symbols of our inner faith. As a college student, I became an Anglican, and before I could be confirmed, I submitted to baptism . Later I went to teach in a Christian school attached to a Baptist church, and even then the pastor seemed more concern...
